Film + Discussion

Discussion with Lukas Marxt, moderated by Adam Hyman, Executive and Artistic Director of Los Angeles Filmforum, and reception following the presentation.

In his video-works Lukas Marxt deals with different temporalities, peripheries and with artistic-contemplative observation. During his journeys Marxt looks for traces in the landscapes or inscribes traces into the landscapes himself.  His discoveries are transferred into a cinematic language. Marxt is currently in Southern California as part of  six month residency, supported by Stiftung Kunstfonds, Kunststiftung NRW, and the Ministerium für Familie, Kinder, Jugend, Kultur und Sport des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, where he is researching the ecological and socio-political structures surrounding the Salton Sea.

Lukas Marxt will present and discuss the following video works:

  • WUNDERSCHÖN UND RUHIG GELEGEN 9 min, 2015, (with Jakub Vrba)
  • CIRCULAR INSCRIPTION  4 min., 2016
  • LOW TIDE 4 min., 2013
  • HIGH TIDE 7 min., 2013
  • REIGN OF SILIENCE 7 min., 2013
  • CAPTIVE HORIZON 15 min., 2014
  • DIAGONALE Trailer, 1 min., 2015

About HIGH TIDE (2013)
Alejandro Bachmann wrote about the work “High Tide“: “The unfathomable, gloomy elegance of this splashing and rumbling landscape painting — the movement of the waves, the circling of the birds, the lifting of the cloud cover — is followed by an arc shot resembling a brushstroke that tells us about everything we have already forgotten while gazing at the static and precisely framed mountain: the world beyond the image.”
