Formerly titled Soirée Allemande: A Crush on German Short Films, but now branded SHORT EXPORT -MADE IN GERMANY, this successful German-French cooperative project between the Goethe-Institut Lyon, the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand, the AG Kurzfilm – German Short Film Association, German Films, and the KurzFilmAgentur Hamburg, presents a curated program selected from the several hundred short films submitted to the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand.   Each year, this program presents an exceptional and multi-facetted selection from recent German short film productions.
 
This evening’s 90-Minute program presents the 2017 edition of SHORT EXPORT -MADE IN GERMANY. 
A reception follows the screening.



TASCHENGELD
Director: Annika Pinske, Germany, 2016, 12 Minutes.  

As usual Elsa spends her afternoons at her father Carl's strip club. Overtired from work and annoyed by Elsa, he sends his daughter to the club upstairs to collect change. Waiting turns into boredom, until an unexpected encounter alters the relationship between Elsa and her father.

SHIPS PASSING IN THE NIGHT
Director: Elizabeth Zwimpfer, Germany, 2016, Animation, 12 Minutes 

Maleika lives in Europe, and Pombalo lives in Africa. She is a beachcomber who collects stranded goods, while he is a fisherman. As his nets continually come-up empty, he sets off to Europe. At the shore they face each other as ships passing in the night.

[OUT OF FRA]ME
Director: : Sophie Linnenbaum, Germany, 2016, 19 Minutes

Out of sheer loneliness, Paul ends up "falling out of his frame". As he struggles to be seen again, he meets The Outtakes – a support group for people with "film defects".
 
KAPUTT (BROKEN – THE WOMEN’S PRISON AT HOHENECK)
Director:  Volker Schlecht, Alexander Lahl, Germany, 2016, Animation, 7 Minutes

Gabriele Stötzer and Birgit Willschütz were political inmates at Hoheneck Castle, the most notorious women’s prison in East Germany. Their story is one of overcrowded cells, despotic hierarchies, ruthless days and the enduring effects of incarceration. Most of all, however, it is about the crushing pressure of forced labour. Prisoners at Hoheneck manufactured millions of pantyhose, bed sheets, and other products for West German retailers, bringing enormous profits to both sides of the Iron Curtain.


BERLIN METANOIA

As abear escapes in Berlin, the whole city goes mad. Meanwhile Kore has a completely different problem: The shadows of her past are haunting her, shadows she cannot get rid of. There is simply no way out: She needs to face her most grueling fear..

HEIMATURLAUB - AUS DEM SKIZZENBUCH EINES ASTRONAUTEN
(HOME LEAVE – FROM AN ASTRONAUT´S SKETCHBOOK)

Director:  Franz Winzentsen, Germany, 2016, Experimentalfilm, 14 Minutes

Presentin some biographical fragments of his childhood and youth, this film accompanies the astronaut on his first space mission, and shows sketches and paintings he does during his home leave.

DER WECHSEL
Director: Markus Mischkowski, Kai Maria Steinkühler, Germany, 2016, 6 Minutes

A loaned 50-euro note changes hands and  pays off all the debts of its successive owners – a parable on the current financial crisis and the theory of money circulation.
