German Currents 2020 continues with a special double feature of German horror cult classics: Werner Herzog's NOSFERATU, THE VAMPYRE & Ulli Lommel's THE TENDERNESS OF THE WOLVES.

About the films:
NOSFERATU, THE VAMPYRE | NOSFERATU: PHANTOM DER NACHT
Director: Werner Herzog, Germany (1979), 107 min, German w/ English subtitles.
An homage to Murnau’s 1922 classic, Herzog’s NOSFERATU achieves its own hypnotic power by evoking a romantic past of waterfalls and mist-filled valleys, and through the eerie sensuality of Klaus Kinski’s performance. Like Aguirre and Fitzcarraldo, Kinski’s Nosferatu is driven by the need for an unknowable spiritual ecstasy - in this case, Isabelle Adjani’s ethereal Lucy. With Bruno Ganz.
TENDERNESS OF THE WOLVES | DIE ZÄRTLICHKEIT DER WÖLFE
Director: Ulli Lommel, Germany (1973), 82 min, German w/ English subtitles.
Ulli Lommel's unforgettable cult horror film THE TENDERNESS OF THE WOLVES follows Fritz Haarmann, aka the Vampire of Hannover, who was a real German serial killer responsible for the murder of two dozen boys and young men during the so-called “years of crisis” between World War I and II. Longtime Rainer Werner Fassbinder collaborator Kurt Raab plays the repulsive killer, who uses his status as a police informant to lure his victims to their deaths and dismembers their bodies to sell the flesh to local restaurants. Although by no means an easy watch, this forgotten gem inspired by the early 70s New German Cinema movement certainly gets under the skin. Produced by Fassbinder himself, who also supplies a shifty cameo!

VENUE:
- The Mission Tiki Drive-In Theatre is located at 10798 Ramona Ave, Montclair, CA 91763
- The audio for the movies is broadcast through an FM transmitter (radio), so make sure you have a good sound system in your vehicle.
- If you don't have an FM transmitter in your car you can bring a battery-operated stereo with speakers to hear the movies.
- There is a full snack bar onsite.
INSTRUCTIONS: Entering the Drive-In and Parking
- We suggest that you arrive at the drive-in 90 minutes before show time. If you intend to see the second show only, plan to arrive thirty minutes before the start of the second show.
- You must not leave your vehicle when checking into the drive in.
- Any lane gets you into any screen. Speed limit is 5 MPH.
- You must social distance park your vehicles and leave one parking spot between cars on each side (park in a checkerboard pattern).
- Large SUVs should sit in the back half of the theater as to not obstruct the view of other moviegoers.
- Turn off your headlights as to not interrupt the viewing experience for other moviegoers.
- This theater and management and the American Cinematheque assumes no responsibility of injury, situations beyond our control or property damage.
DO'S
- You must wear a mask when outside your vehicle to visit the bathroom and snack bar.
- You must only view the movie from inside your vehicle.
- You must practice social distancing at all times.
- You may bring your own food, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.
DONT'S
- You may not park your vehicle within six feet of another vehicle.
- You may not sit on top of your car, sit outside of your car or gather with others around your car.
- Hatchbacks that extend beyond the roof of the car must remain closed.
- You must not leave your vehicle unless visiting the bathroom or snack bar.
- You may not switch your car around to watch a movie on a different screen.
Not Allowed
- No alcohol, marijuana or drugs are allowed.
- No firearms or weapons of any kind.
- No animals allowed (with the exception of service animals).
- No campers, trailers and oversized vehicles that take up more than one parking space are allowed.
