ENEMY TERRITORY – FRITZ BAUER & POSTWAR GERMANY

Operating in almost complete isolation within a judicial apparatus still pervaded by Nazis more than a decade after the end of the war, Fritz Bauer (1903-1968) tracked down Holocaust enablers across the globe and brought them to trial. This film series pays tribute to the Jewish state attorney who returned from exile to free West German society from the demons of its recent past.

In an evening moderated by Lia Gangitano, Michel Auder, Jonathan Berger, Vaginal Davis, Susanne Sachsse, Jamie Stewart/xiu xiu, and Michael Stickrod discuss their radical restaging of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Magic Flute at 80WSE Gallery in December 2015, as well as Auder and Stickrod’s film installation The Magic Flute, Part Two: A Film in Pieces, on view at 80WSE June 7-August 12.
In this German-language summer theater camp from August 1-5 and August 8-12, teenagers aged 11 to 16 learn the ins and outs of theater as they work together to create and publicly perform their own play. Participants get the opportunity to try out different roles, improvise, and practice speaking on stage. Register by July 11 to get a 10% Early-Bird discount.
