As part of Panorama Europe 2015, the Goethe-Institut presents Age of Cannibals, a highly acclaimed feature film by Johannes Naber which has won multiple German Film Critics Awards and is nominated for this year’s German Film Award.

Öllers and Niederländer are two highly paid consultants. For years they have been touring the world’s dirtiest countries seeking to satisfy their clients’ hunger for profit. Reality exists merely as a dusty silhouette behind the windows of their air-conditioned luxury hotels. Their goal seems to be within their grasp: to ascend to their company’s top echelon and finally be made partners. Both are well aware that, according to their firm’s unwritten rules in the hierarchy, they will need to secure their final promotion by their mid-thirties or else they will be sidelined: ‘up or out’. But then their old rival Hellinger is given the sought-after promotion and they find themselves forced to come to terms with his successor, the ambitious young Bianca. Gradually, they begin to lose control and their nerves are on edge: why did Hellinger throw himself out of a window? Why is the company being sold? And will the firm reshuffle the cards without them? Who can they trust? They are fighting their last battle. Age of Cannibals is a slick, sharp parody charting the fall of the new elite from the heights of hubris into a miserable abyss.
