As part of the interdisciplinary event series Ursula Block’s gelbe MUSIK – 33 Years in Review highlighting the history and archive of experimental music and the work of sound art curatorial pioneer Ursula Block, a film selection under the title Experimental Music on Film, curated by Block, is screened at the Goethe-Institut.

Experimental Music on Film focuses on artist-to-artist tribute films and performances. At the center of the series is Nam June Paik’s A Tribute to John Cage (1973, re-edited 1976). Paik and Cage initially met in Berlin in 1958. Beyond being a being a key inspiration for Paik, Cage was a close friend and frequent collaborator. The 29-minute film creates a beautiful portrait of Cage via documented performances, interviews, and anecdotes. A unique collage of chance, humor, sound, color and grit from one legend to another. Two additional surprise tribute films will be screened this night.

The event series Ursula Block’s gelbe MUSIK – 33 Years in Review is curated by Justin Luke and Fiona McGovern, and is presented in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut and OSMOS.
