In order to creatively explore and push the boundaries of the intersection between the arts and German as a foreign language, the Goethe-Institut New York and the Fritz Ascher Society are launching a program that accompanies the Fritz Ascher exhibition at the NYU's Grey Art Gallery, where Ascher's work is on display until April 6, 2019.

Central to the accompanying program is the life and work of Fritz Ascher (1893-1970), a German-Jewish Expressionist artist, who survived two World Wars and persecution by the National Socialists, and developed his own artistic voice in drawing, paintings and poems.

The program includes:

- Field-trips to the Goethe-Institut New York until April 6, for workshops followed by a visit to the NYU Grey Art Gallery, where students can see Fritz Ascher's original artwork. School classes may inquire and sign up for workshops at the Goethe-Institut here: teacherservice-newyork@goethe.de

-Contact Grey Art Gallery directly to sign up for gallery tours.

- Fritz Ascher - A Competition for High School Students in Prose, Poetry or Images on Paper: Fritz Ascher Society Competition for High School Students

Winners will be notified at the official award ceremony on May 2, 2019
