Digital Film Haus is celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday with a series featuring various documentaries and discussions about
LUDWIG VAN. Each film focuses on a different aspect of the composer’s work and life to explore influences and interpretations of his unforgettable music.
We are thrilled to welcome Martin Baer, the co-director of
Kinshasa Symphony for a virtual Q&A. Martin will join us via Zoom from Germany for this discussion on Tuesday, June 23rd at 3:00 pm (CDT). The Q&A will be moderated by film professor and artist Caitlin Horsmon.
About Martin Baer
Martin Baer is a cinematographer, author, and director. He has made numerous television features and documentaries, and has also filmed many opera productions, concerts and stage plays. His documentaries mainly focus on historical topics and on Africa (
Free Africa!,
Weiße Geister – The Colonial War Against the Herero). He has authored several texts about Africa’s history, including
Headhunting – Germans in East Africa.
About Caitlin Horsmon
Cailtin Horsmon is an artist, curator, and Associate Professor of Film & Media Arts at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She directed the artist-run space Plug Projects and is a founder of Stray Cat Microcinema, the local partner cinema of the Goethe Pop Up. Grounded in the moving image but integrating installation, sound, sculpture, collaborations, curatorial work, and community programming, her work investigates the obscure and overlooked landscapes of the everyday. It has been exhibited around the world receiving numerous awards and grants.
