Workshop by Louise Hisayasu

Introductory level workshop defines what algorithms are and how they relate to the broader fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Through hands-on activities and discussions, participants gain insights into how algorithms can reflect existing biases in society, and how they can create new ones. The closing section suggests ways that we can live alongside algorithms by understanding and challenging them.

Workshop Outline
  • Part 1: Making Decisions
  • Part 2: Intelligence
  • Part 3: Complexity
Workshop Goals
  • Define ‘algorithm’, ‘AI’ and ‘machine learning’
  • Explore examples of algorithms
  • Discuss how algorithms impact society
Instructor: Louise Hisayasu
