Film Lest We Forget: Into the Arms of Strangers (2000)

Noon Film Series at the San Francisco Public Library

This award-winning documentary from Mark Jonathan Harris presents an extraordinary rescue operation, known as the Kindertransport, which aided the youngest victims of the Nazi terror. In a humanitarian way to save these children, they were transported from German-held land to foster homes and hostels in Great Britain. Judy Dench thoughtfully narrates the unforgettable stories and the dramatic impact of their journeys accompanied by in-depth interviews of the child survivors, parents and rescuers as well as rare archival footage and photographs.

The exhibit Lest We Forget is presented by the Goethe-Institut San Francisco and the German Consulate General San Francisco, with heartfelt gratitude to Barbro and Bernard Osher for their generosity. With appreciation for the support of the Consulate General of Israel, the Consulate General of Italy, and the Italian Cultural Center. Special thanks to the San Francisco Arts Commission and San Francisco Recreation and Parks and numerous community partners.
