Film Lest We Forget: Shores of Light (2015)

Noon Film Series an der San Francisco Public Library

Directed by Yael Katzir, this film presents the untold story of warmth after a terrible war. On their way to Israel, thousands of Jewish survivors landed in Italy after WWII where they were amazed by the warm welcome they received from local Italians, which stood in contrast to the years of hatred. While they were physically and psychologically healing, hundreds of women gave birth during this transitory period, establishing new lives and families. With testimonials and historical footage, this film “captures a ray of light after times of great darkness”.

The exhibit Lest We Forget is presented by the Goethe-Institut San Francisco and the German Consulate General San Francisco, with heartfelt gratitude to Barbro and Bernard Osher for their generosity. With appreciation for the support of the Consulate General of Israel, the Consulate General of Italy, and the Italian Cultural Center. Special thanks to the San Francisco Arts Commission and San Francisco Recreation and Parks and numerous community partners.

In cooperation with the San Francisco Public Library and the Consulate General of Israel.
