Introduced by David Lazar from the German Historical Institute.

The Luther Code (1-3):
Leap into Freedom (16th century), Search for Truth (17th century), The Beginning of Equality (18th century)
Germany, 2016, 3 x 42 min., Directors:  Wilfried Hauke, Alexandra Hardorf

Parts 1-3 of the six-part documentary The Luther Code address the ruptures that transformed our way of thinking and show how humans created new rules for life in a better world.

Authors Alexandra Hardorf and Wilfried Hauke turn to geneticists, volunteers for refugee relief, online journalists, authors, astrophysicists and others who play a role in shaping our future and ask questions about faith, courage, fears and the future. Portraits of famous and groundbreaking persons from the last 500 years, such as Leibniz, Lessing, Engels, Einstein and Luther, illustrate their answers.

David Lazar is a senior editor at the German Historical Institute in Washington DC and organizer of the “Legacies of the Reformation” lecture series at the German Historical Institute in Fall 2017.

No charge; reservations requested. Seating is limited.
