In Conversation with Jürgen Konrad
Sprechen Sie Deutsch? All who wish to hear and speak German are invited to bring their lunch to our monthly presentation and discussion. A topic of interest from German culture, history, or contemporary affairs will be presented, in German, by a selected speaker. Discussion on the topic will complete the
Mittagstisch.
Many refugees are still on the move to Germany and Europe. People from Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Eritrea, Somalia and many other countries ask for protection after traveling long and dangerous escape routes. In the last two years, the authorities and residents in the communities were often unable to cope with this influx of newcomers.
What challenges and opportunities evolve out of the situation today? How can every person participate so that living together with the new immigrants works out well and benefits all involved?
Jürgen Konrad has been teaching German to refugees for several years. He is also closely involved in the local support group for asylum seekers in his Bavarian home town of Kaufbeuren/Allgäu. He spoke at
Deutsch am Mittag in October 2015 about the situation at that time, and will update us during this talk on the situation in his community and his ongoing personal experiences with the refugees.
