As part of his project Lest We Forget (Gegen das Vergessen) German photographer Luigi Toscano spent a year traveling to meet with Holocaust survivors in Germany, the United States, Ukraine, Israel and Russia. He gave them the opportunity to share their personal stories – possibly for the last time. The result: more than 200 portrait photos – the heart of this project.

From April 10 to April 22, Toscano’s compelling portraits of Holocaust survivors will be exhibited on the National Mall near the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool. In addition to this photographic installation, these portraits are also the focal point of an illustrated book, an app, and a movie.

Join us for a discussion with the artist, one of the survivors he photographed, and young Germans working with Holocaust survivors in the United States today.
