12:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Orange Zone, Booth O112

This event is part of the Goethe-Institut New York's "Queer as German Folk" series, with which we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots as a milestone in the fight for gender diversity and equality.

"Queer as German Folk" is a project of the Goethe-Instituts North America in cooperation with the Schwules Museum Berlin, and the Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung).

Realized in cooperation with The DC Center for the LGBT Community, The Rainbow History Project, and Whitman-Walker Health.

The Goethe-Institut Washington is excited to announce that it will have a booth at the Capital Pride Festival for its first time ever! On June 9, from 12:00 to 7:00 pm, our tiny 10x10 booth at the fourth-largest LGBTQ+ pride event in the United States will be transformed into a small version of our exhibition Queer as German Folk: Celebrating 50 Years of Transatlantic Rainbow Friendship – on display in full beginning May 23 at the Goethe gallery and at The DC Center for the LGBT Community.

Stop by our spot (Orange Zone, Booth O112) to browse a miniature of our larger installation, featuring archive materials on LGBTQ+ community history in Washington, DC from Whitman-Walker Health, the Rainbow History Project, and the DC Public Library. The installation is a deconstructed, DIY archive that presents a mash-up of queer historical and cultural narratives from Germany and Washington alike. Learn what other programming we have in store this summer for Queer as German Folk, including our film series Kino-Q and our Cabaret on K performance and party. Learn more about our German cultural institute and language school here in Washington, practice your German with us, and try German candy!

Join the LGBTQ+ community on America’s Mainstreet, historic Pennsylvania Avenue, for the Capital Pride Festival in the Nation’s Capital, presented by Live! Casino & Hotel. Enjoy a full day of entertainment, music, food, drink, education, and celebration. The Pride Festival includes three stages of national and local talent, and will host 300 exhibitors including local community groups and businesses, food vendors, and organizations looking to promote their products and services to our community. Engage, learn, and celebrate with the many diverse organizations that represent us.

* This family friendly event is FREE and open to the public.
* Donations are encouraged and go to support the Capital Pride Alliance and LGBTQ+ partner organizations.
* Due to large crowds and very hot asphalt, it’s recommended that you leave pets at home.
* Please note that bags/backpacks will be subject to search, so consider leaving them at home for your convenience
