#Nucleus Smartphone Film competition
Smartphone Film competition
The Goethe-Institut New Zealand and the Mobile Innovation Network and Association (MINA) invite aspiring filmmakers to submit their smartphone short films dealing with issues of the environment, ecology and sustainability to the "#Nucleus short film competition”. Until the 31st of August 2019, motivated creatives from Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam can submit their short films of 3-5 minutes duration.
A jury will select the best productions and invite the winners to a public screening of their films and an exciting three-day smartphone film making workshop in Wellington in early November 2019.
“The project name "nucleus" is Latin and refers to the seed of a fruit”, explains Christian Kahnt (director Goethe-Institut) “that is the reason why we decided on this title for the project”.
Inspired by the Māori concept “Kaitiakitanga” which stands for a commitment to protect and care for the environment, the project is designed to pay tribute to our beautiful nature in the form of smartphone films that call attention to sustainability. The basic ecological idea is to be combined with innovative approaches to smartphone film technology and storytelling in order to present new connections to places and people.
"We chose smartphone filmmaking so that everyone can contribute to this project. In order to understand issues relating to sustainability, we need to capture multiple voices and visions” says Max Schleser (Screening Director MINA).
The aim is to gain impressions of the environment of the various participants, who will show nature, landscapes and iconic sites of their respective countries, to make a connection between the natural world, people’s lives and cultural heritage. The short film must be shot on a smartphone, mobile device or a pocket camera. For further application criteria and details please visit the website of the Goethe-Institut: www.goethe.de/nucleus
