DonNa Huong (Hanoi) and Ignaz Schick (Berlin) have known each other since 2017 through joint workshops and sound projects. Both sound artists deal with found material in different ways. During the Pandemic they were working on an exchange project titled UPCYCLING. In this performance inconspicuous or everyday objects and found objects are explored for their tonal and musical usability.
Ignaz Schick has always used found material for his compositions, physical objects and collages. These can be old records, archival material, photographs or found objects that become the starting point for his often collage-like work. Sampling in the most varied of forms (analogue, digital, assembly-related) plays an important and central role in his music performances.
DonNa Huong has developed a very special obsession with objects and their sonic inner workings. She likes to work with everyday objects and found objects, from which she elicits the most obscure sounds and noises. She was inspired by the Japanese sound researcher Akio Suzuki. With electronic amplification and intensive performance, she often elicits unexpected, hidden, unexpected sounds from her objects and idiosyncratic abstract but at the same time poetic sound collages are created.
The UPCYCLING project is about examining inconspicuous or everyday objects and found objects for their tonal and musical usability.

Ignaz Schick (*1972)

is sound artist, composer and experimental turntablist. He lives in Berlin. As a child he learned to play saxophone after meeting Don Cherry. He received composition lessons from Josef Anton Ried and at the Academy of the Arts Munich. In Berlin, he has been and is a major figure for electro acoustic music. Among other things he co-founded the real-time music scene Berlin. He toured worldwide, received numerous scholarships, and collaborated with renowned musicians such as Mwata Bowden, Don Cherry, Douglas Ewart, Limpe Fox, George Lewis, Toshi Nakamura, Charlemagne Palestine, Akira Sakata, and Martin Tetreault. Since 1999 has made the label Zarek, curated and organized several festivals for experimental music (FAM Festival, Erase & Reset, Sound Shifts, Realtime Music Days 2010, The International Turntable Orchestra, Flux Festival). In 2018 he received the prestigious scholarship for the Cultural Academy Tarabya in Istanbul.

completed her studies at the Central University for Art Education in 2013, in 2014 her music studies at the Music Academy with a major in jazz, and in 2016 her master's degree in cultural management at the Central University for Art Education. She took lessons from Henrik Frisk, Stefan Östersjö and Tran Kim Ngoc at the independent centre for experimental music DomDom Hanoi. Huong Donna is currently a lecturer at the Central College of Art Education. In her artistic practice, she always experiments with everyday objects in combination with traditional musical instruments and electronic devices.
