Due to a limited number of trained professionals, mental and psychological illnesses in Vietnam are often not treated sufficiently or even not at all. Cultural stigmatisation, unprofessional treatment methods and a lack of awareness within society make it difficult for those affected to deal with and cure their suffering.

The project 'Wintercearig', supported by the Goethe-Institut, aims to create a safe space for expression and dialogue for mental and psychological health issues by connecting art and scientific expertise.

On the 28th of September the Goethe-Institut and 'Wintercearig' invite you to the German House for an interactive information fair with this year's theme 'The Clearing'. Exhibition stalls and art activities enable visitors to experience and better understand mental and psychological health problems firsthand and immersively.

  • Virtual Reality Games offer an experience in which the artworks are seemingly brought to life and visitors are able to experience the virtual world in depth and vividly.
  • The stalls are dedicated to the visual arts, music, movement and theatre. Everybody can try out different exercises under the professional guidance of the instructors.
  • Open discussion panels are offered in which the current state of mental health issues in Vietnam are debated.
  • There will be two performances on Stress & Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and Depression by local as well as international artists.
  • Another art installation deals with the typographical interpretation of the words "GAD", "stress" and "depression" in the Vietnamese language.
  • In addition, visitors are offered many other activities such as painting pictures.

About the project:
"The Fair 2019" is the third art installation of the Wintercearig project and has set itself the task of sensitizing people in Vietnam to the topic of mental health.

The Clearing, based on the 20th century German Philosopher Martin Heidegger’s Lichtung, a metaphor of a clearing in a forest - the image of a pleasant glide, where the sun shines, encircled by dark trees. It is an opening, through which entities other than human beings can emerge out of hiddenness or are made visible by coming into the light.

Saturday, 28 September 2019 from 2 pm to 9 pm
German House - 33 Le Duan, Ben Nghe, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City
