German representative at EU Music Festival

The ensemble earned an international reputation for their historically informed performance practice, a practice requiring musicians to perform on period instruments or modern copies of the original instruments. The ensemble is frequently invited to perform at Innsbruck Festival of Early Music (Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik), Early Music Days at Herne (Tage Alter Musik Herne), Gent Festival’s OdeGand, International Festival of Sacred Music (Festival Internacional de Arte Sacro) in Madrid or Prague Spring International Music Festival (Prager Frühling) and Budapest Spring Festival (Budapester Frühlingsfestival), to name just a few. The ensemble’s repertoire consists of works from Renaissance and Baroque periods. Additionally, the ensemble also commissions pieces from contemporary composers.

Since its establishment in 2003 by Joel Frederiksen, Ensemble Phoenix Munich has received numerous awards for their recording albums and live concerts in regard to early music genre (albums released: The Elfin Knight, Rose of Sharon, Requiem for a Pink Moon).

The ensemble of six with Joel Frederiksen will be accompanied by multi-awarded soprano Julla von Landsberg. The performance is part of the tour “Fürchtet Euch nicht!” (“Fear Ye Not!”) with a program of 17 pieces, among them works of Schütz and Monteverdi.
