In April 1998, the Goethe-Institut opened its first exhibition and held its first themed events. The multifunctional space for art, music and seminars on various topics was called the Kulturforum. The first German female artist was Juliane Heise. She transformed the space into an open studio for the public to watch her doing art. Other participants in the exhibition were lecturers and young teachers (master students) from the University of Fine Arts Hanoi.

Many exhibitions followed. There is not enough space to appreciate them individually. Only the largest group exhibition of Vietnamese artists is memorized here, an exhibition that accompanied the first architecture conference of the Goethe Institute on LIFE IN HANOI’S OLD TOWN.
