The Ignorant Schoolmaster is a performance project by Nguyen Hoang Giang and Gabriel Hensche, whose works address the human-machine relationship. Whereas Giang’s work examines what humans can learn from intelligent machines, Gabriel is concerned of how we can stay healthy mentally and physically in the age of digital technologies. Their works will take the form of exercises for the future that allows the audience to engage with the topics.

Nguyen Hoang Giang (* 1989, Hanoi)

currently lives and works in Ho Chi Minh city.
His works are multimedia, with focus on the social and cultural impacts of new technologies. His interests lie in failures in the relationship between human and machine, specifically in the process of learning.
His works have been shown internationally at various exhibitions, residencies, galleries, and museums such as Museo del ‘900 (IT), Asian Culture Complex (KR), Galerie Nord/Kunstverein Tiergarten (DE), ViaFarini (IT), MartinGoya Business (CN), Galerie Quynh (VN), Nha San Collective (VN).
Beside artistic practices, he runs curatorial and educational projects such as Net Fluxists (2021), In_ur_scr! (2016). Since 2020, he has lectured at the Digital Media department, RMIT University Vietnam.
Gabriel Hensche (* 1986 in Dresden)

lives and works in Stuttgart and Berlin.
In his practice, he follows a situational, conceptual and collaborative approach. He worked not only with other artists, and people outside the art world such as botanists, programmers and audiences, but also with non-human intelligent systems. Many of his performance, moving image, and installation pieces investigate contemporary belief systems through echoing, altering, and dispersing explanation models in order to explore possibilities for community and co-existence.
Since 2017, he has helped in the position of the directing manager, to build up the
Campus Gegenwart, a center for networking in practice and reflection at Stuttgart State University of Music and Performing Arts.
His work has been presented offline and online in museums, biennials, galleries, film festivals, residencies and public spaces including: Kunst-Werke Berlin (DE), Project Anywhere (NY), B-Tour Festival (DE, SRB), Nida Art Colony (LT), Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (FR) Art Cube Jerusalem (IL), Viafarini, Milan (IT), Akademie Schloss Solitude (DE), Württembergischer Kunstverein (DE), Sinopale (TR), Brooklyn Film Festival (US), Slamdance Film Festival (US), Manifesta 11, Cabaret der Künstler (CH).
