Video installation. The artists Hai & Thanh Le introduce their work which was produced in a residence in Berlin. An artistic approach to the former division of Germany.

In the framework of an artist residence, the internationally successful brothers Hai and Thanh Le lived and worked in Berlin for four weeks in June 2016. During this period of time they completed their three-part video series “The bridges of Vietnam, Korea and Germany” in which they tackle the (former) division of these countries. What does a division mean for a country and its people? How does the young generation deal with this part of history that they only know from narration?

The exhibition at the Goethe-Institute Hanoi shows the third and last part of the video series titled “The bridge III”. The multi canal video installation features performances of the Le brothers and other international artists at historically significant locations in Berlin.

The twin brothers Le Ngoc Thanh and Le Duc Hai, born in 1975 in Quang Binh, Vietnam, got globally famous with their painting, installations, performance and video art. In 2008 they formed the New Space Arts Foundation with which they organize and finance an independent showroom in Hue with regular events as well as an annual artist residence for artists from Vietnam and the whole world.
