Hanoi New Music Ensemble & Đông Kinh Cổ Nhạc
Chamber music concert by Vietnamese composers Luong Hue Trinh, Nguyen Thien Dao and Vu Nhat Tan, based on the Vietnamese concept of the Five Elements "Ngũ Hành". The Five Natural Elements or Movements constitute all things in ancient Asian philosophy. They move back and forth in a positive or negative direction so that by its operation it produces life on earth. The concert aspires to open the door to the Movement of Sound and Creative Thinking.
Vũ Nhât Tân (*1970)

composer of mostly chamber and piano works which have been performed in Asia, Europe and elsewhere. teaches composition and musicology at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, Hanoi.
Mr. Vũ studied piano with Nhât Anh at the Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi, where he earned a certificate in 1987 and degrees in secondary education in composition and musicology in 1991. He studied composition and musicology there with Trân Trong Hung from 1991–95 and graduated with a BMus. He later studied computer music with Clarence Albertson Barlow and new music with Johannes Fritsch at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne with a scholarship from the DAAD; and composition with Chinary Ung at the University of California, San Diego.

Luong Hue Trinh (* 1985, Hanoi)

is multimedia composer and electroacoustic music performer. She graduated with honors in Jazz Keyboard (BA) at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Since 2010 she has worked in electroacoustic music under the guidance of composer SonX, which has become her main musical focus today. From 2015-18, she was awarded a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) scholarship for the program “New Technique in Composition” and finished her Master in Multimedia Composition under the guidance of Georg Hajdu and Elmar Lampson at the Hochschule für Musik & Theater Hamburg, Germany.
Her works and performances have been performed in in Australia, Czech Republic, Germany, India, Norway, PRC, Scotland, Thailand, UK, USA.
Trinh received commissions for various exhibitions, for example: Riverscapes IN FLUX (2011-13, Goethe-Institut); Living Jewels (2012) Hanoi, Vietnam; The Roving Eye - Contemporary Art from South-East Asia (2014) Istanbul, Turkey; Green Vietnam Journey (2014) MoCST, Hanoi; Virtual Exhibition – OUA Electroacoustic Music Festival (2017) by Osaka University of Art, Japan, a five-channel video The Bridge 3 (2016) by Le Brothers in Goethe-Institut Hanoi and more.
As a performer, she had many live performances in following festivals and concerts in Denmark, Germany, Japan, Norway, Sweden, Thailand, the USA and Vietnam.

Jeff von der Schmidt (*1955, Los Angeles, USA)
founding Artistic Director of Southwest Chamber Music and the Los Angeles International New Music Festival. He received two Grammy Awards in 2003 and 2004 and a total of nine nominations for 30 compact disc recordings. Mr. von der Schmidt has conducted concerts nationally and internationally in Europe, Asia, USA and Mexico. He serves as conductor and Artistic Advisor to the Hanoi New Music Ensemble.
