German film screening „ Democracy“ - Director David Bernet

On October 3, the Goethe-Institut will be showing the film DEMOCRACY - IN THE RAUSCH DER DATEN (director: David Bernet, 2015). The film is particularly suitable for a student, academic or civil society audience. For people interested in politics, international law, the protection of privacy and the influence of digitization on the economy. It supplements activities for legal dialogue and conveys an understanding of the role of civil society institutions.

The film documents the development towards the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union.

Digitalization has changed society. While data is becoming the “new oil”, data protection is becoming the new “pollution control”. This creative documentary opens an astonishing inside view into the lawmaking milieu on EU level. “Democracy: Im Rausch der Daten” is a compelling story of how a group of politicians try to protect todays society against the impact of Big Data and mass surveillance.
