Seminar -best practices for post-Covid19

The seminar connects leading experts, enterprises and associations with mutual vision on energy efficiency in building to share best practices in operation and unlock obstacles post-Covid19 in a sustainable way.

Organizer is Vietnam Energy Efficiency Network (EEN-Vietnam), an initiative of Vietnam Sustainability Social Enterprise (VSSE): to promote sustainable energy objectives through best practices in project development, communication, and capacity building in Vietnam. The event is also funded by the International Relief Fund from the German Federal Foreign Office, Goethe-Institute and other partners: www.goethe.de/relieffund.

Cooperation partners are: Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC), International Building Performance Simulation Association Vietnam (IBPSA-Vietnam), Energy Conservation Research and Development Center (ENERTEAM), Chief Engineer Association Hanoi (CEA Hanoi), Hanoi Apartment Building Management Operating Club, AGOhub, Ashui.com, EDEEC JSC.

With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, building operation is facing significant challenges.

Firstly, social distancing is putting new demands on building operation to guarantee health safety for everyone. Building stakeholders are expected to apply measures to limit exposure and prevent infection for people.

Secondly, Covid-19 pandemic is causing financial burdens on building operation. In the third quarter of 2020, the office occupancy rate in Hanoi decreased by approximately 6% while the vacancy rate is expected to increase in 2021. A view to the international contexts tell us that household energy consumption in the US increased by 6.8% compared to the same period last year. Therefore, investors have no choice but to cut costs. The most effective and sustainable way to solve this problem is to improve the energy efficiency in operation of existing buildings.

Thirdly, building operation is accounted for the highest rate in CO2 emissions among all sectors, at 28% of total global emissions. Construction waste is also responsible for 10-20% of total solid waste in Vietnam, which is equivalent to 6.000-12.000 tons/day and most of them are not disposed properly. These figures clearly show the environmental responsibility of building stakeholders.

Therefore we need to ask: which is the right way to sustainably operate buildings in Vietnam?
This nationwide seminar “Energy Efficiency Buildings – Best practices for operating costs during and after COVID19” is a live and online seminar which offers the opportunity to building stakeholders to share experience and unlock existing challenges in operating sustainable buildings in the “new normal” after Covid19
