An audio visual performance on the rooftop

Time Between in collaboration with Quoc Thao Theatre are pleased to present ‘
Ether: The Rebirth’, a show featuring performance, sound, video and installation arts on on the rooftop of an 8-storey building in District 3, where Quoc Thao Theatre is situated. Through this one-day exhibition, the rooftop is re-imagined as a public space, both physically and conceptually, to present contemporary art.
Literally, Ether means sky and also refers to as the fifth fundamental element besides the other four: earth, air, water and fire in many philosophical and spiritual lineages. Ether represents spirit, the ability to think, to communicate as well as to creative energy of humans. Ether is a metaphor for what goes beyond our daily experience, invisible and powerful, connecting us together in the cosmos.
The show invites the audience to take an experimental journey to discover themselves together with the artists and their works on a space in the middle - on the rooftop, which does not belong to the ground nor the sky. One could metaphorically connect one’s standing up a rooftop to a state of living in the in-between, geographically, sexually, socially, politically or religiously in this era of 'roadrunners' among-st information, goods, and countless other choices of modern society.
“Ether: The Rebirth’ is the third art show in this series and has been formed and developed during social distancing due to the covid-19 pandemic. There is no denying that the coronavirus has affected our lives in many ways since the beginning of 2020. It’s time for us to radically rethink the way we live, where, how and why we work as well as create art. 'Rebirth' means the process of being reincarnated or born again or the action of reappearing or starting to flourish or increase after a decline. 'Ether: The Rebirth' refers to the endless cycle of life: birth, life, death and rebirth with an optimistic and hopeful attitude towards revival.
'Ether: The Rebirth’ invites each artist to tell their stories and experiences during this difficult time through their artistic language. It hopes to bring moments of togetherness and conversations between people present at the event, either audience or participating artists on the rooftop, which does not belong to the ground nor the sky, where they may find resonance between one another or a moment of stillness and nothingness to go into their inner dialogues.
Organizers:
Time Between is an independent art project focusing on performance, contemporary dance, sound & experimental music, film, video and new media art. Founded in September 2018, the project is dedicated to immaterial art and not based on a fixed location.
Quoc Thao Theatre was established in 2017 by two directors and artists Quoc Thao and Quoc Thuan and co-invested by The Center of Art & Literature Experimenting and Training under The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations and The Th Entertainment Company. The theatre includes an experimental stage, a practice stage, and a 250-seat main stage. It is a venue for performances and acting courses for drama students.
