Cultural Entrepreneurship Platform
The Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) in South Africa are fragmented and visibility as an industry is weak. There is a fundamental lack of professional advice for entrepreneurs in the creative industry, but also a lack of understanding and knowledge of the specific needs of creative entrepreneurs and on how the creative industry could be strengthened. Part of the problem is that no functioning cross-sectoral associations or networks exist that could represent the interests of creative entrepreneurs towards state authorities and decision-makers.
The Project ‘Cultural Economies Platform (CEP)’ aims to contribute to existing efforts by government and civil society organisations to coordinate the CCI through networking and creating possibilities for the visibility of the Industry, as well as for the CCI ecosystem to recognise each other and the work the various parts are doing to further develop the industry.
The objectives of the CEP are to provide a space for dialogue, networking and resource sharing. This is achieved through conferences and other dialogue formats, a virtual platform and business development support - in the hope that where discord and gaps are recognized, the industry will be able to strategise in efforts to better address the needs on the CCI.
