Cultural Entrepreneurship Platform

The Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) in South Africa are fragmented and visibility as an industry is weak. There seems to be a lack of understanding and knowledge of how the creative industry could be strengthened. Part of the problem is that no functioning cross-sectoral associations or networks exist that could represent the interests of the creative industries towards state authorities and decision-makers. Therefore, there is great potential in strengthening the exchange and dialogue between civil society organisations.

The Project ‘Cultural Entrepreneurship Platform (CEP)’ aims to contribute to existing efforts by government and civil society organisations to coordinate the CCI through networking and creating possibilities for the visibility of the Industry, as well as for the CCI ecosystem to recognise each other and the work the various parts are doing to further develop the industry.

The objectives of the CEP will be to provide a space for dialogue, networking and resources sharing through a conference, virtual platform and business development support - in the hope that where discord and gaps are recognized, the industry will be able to strategise in efforts to better address the needs on the CCI.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GmbH) and the Goethe-Institute promote the emerging market of cultural and creative industries in Africa and in the Middle East.
