Africa-Europe Partnerships For Culture: Southern Africa

The Africa-Europe Partnerships For Culture is a 30 Mio. EUR programme funded by the European Union and implemented by the Goethe-Institut, Expertise France, Institut Francais, UNESCO and EUNIC Global. It aims to re-shape cultural cooperation, exchange, co-creation and dissemination within Africa as well as between Africa and Europe whilst promoting intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.

The programme was developed with artists and cultural professionals from Sub-Saharan Africa to ensure that African voices are centred during the implementation phase.

The Africa-Europe Partnerships For Culture consists of three distinct yet interlinked components:

Sub-Saharan Africa Component

Implemented by the Goethe-Institut, Expertise France, Institut français and EUNIC Global. It facilitates mobility, co-creation and co-production. It also provides structural funding for spaces of arts and culture. It focuses on the sectors of visual and performing arts. Geographic reach: Sub-Saharan Africa & European Union.

Southern Africa Component

Implemented by the Goethe-Institut and UNESCO. It provides structural funding for heritage narratives organisations. It also facilitates creative collaborations, capacity building and networking opportunities. Geographic reach: Southern Africa (Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe) & European Union.

West Africa Component

Implemented by the Goethe-Institut. It facilitates the internationalisation of the festival ecosystems in West Africa through capacity building and mobility. It also supports the establishment as well as the consolidation of networks of artists, technicians and cultural managers. West Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo) & European Union.
