Assistant caretaker & Driver
The Goethe-Institut South Africa is looking to employ an Assistant caretaker & Driver
as of 01.10.2023 (or later) until 30.09.2025. This is a full-time position (100%) of 40 hours per week. Regular working hours are Monday to Thursday from 08:30–18:00 and Friday from 08:30–14:30.
The remuneration is based on the remuneration scheme for local employees of the Goethe-Institut South Africa.
SCOPE OF WORK
- Maintenance of the premises and parking areas
- Cleaning of the premises and waste disposal
- Supporting the organisation, preparation and coordination of events and exams at the Institute
- Covering the reception when needed
- Monitoring the work of external handymen when required
- Lock-up service
- Driving the company car according to the requirements of the Goethe-Institut
- Providing safe, reliable and punctual service at all times
- Ensuring the vehicle log books are accurate, complete and kept up to date
- Running errands for the Institute
- Deliveries and collections
- Collecting and transporting guests and staff to and from their various destinations in a safe manner, including the willingness to work on weekends and after hours
- Ensuring at all times that traffic regulations are obeyed and that any issues with the company vehicle are reported immediately
- Ensuring vehicle has enough fuel at all times, license disk is always up to date (this includes completing the application and submitting procedure) and car is taken for regular checks (ensuring that dates for checks are followed up upon)
- Maintaining, cleaning and washing the motor vehicle of the Goethe-Institut by one’s own hand
- Helping with general duties in the house as directed
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Code B driver’s license
- Very good English language skills
- Reliability, honesty and punctuality
- Respectful behaviour, well-spoken and well presented
- Confident and able to deal with guests, clients, suppliers, colleagues and others
- Strong ability to work unsupervised, promptly and always professionally
- Following procedures outlined by superiors and suppliers (e.g. collection of deliveries)
- Good knowledge of various routes in and around Johannesburg and Pretoria
- Initiative within the framework of responsibilities and skills
- Strong team and communication skills
- Willingness to work flexible hours after hours and on weekends if required
- Clear criminal record and clear accident record
- Clear credit check
- Contactable references
- Must be computer literate
- South African work permit compulsory
