About the Programme
The Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture are a €30 million, EU-funded initiative promoting cultural exchange and co-creation between cultural practitioners across Sub-Saharan African countries and the European Union. Managed by Goethe-Institut Johannesburg, the programme operates across different work packages, e.g. mobility, structural funds, co-creation, skills development and networking.

Scope of Assignment
The Grant Officer provides operational support to Work Package Officers in administering sub-granting schemes through the Goethe Application Portal (GAP). The role manages beneficiary communications, grantee onboarding, compliance tracking, and financial reporting liaison. The Grant Officer maintains accurate grant administration records and escalates technical or procedural issues to the relevant GAP or Financial Officer on an irregular basis, whenever the grant cycle of the Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture requires assistance.
Profile
Essential:
- Tertiary qualification in business, administration, law, finance, or related field or demonstrated equivalent professional experience
- Minimum 2 years' experience in grant management, compliance, and financial administration
- Proficiency in EU grant procedures and compliance frameworks
- Advanced organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication in English; French and/or Portuguese an advantage
- Competence with grant management platforms and digital reporting systems
- South African residence or a valid work permit
Desirable:
- Prior experience with the Goethe-Institut’s grant procedures and compliance frameworks as well as the Goethe Application Portal (GAP) or comparable systems
- Familiarity with Sub-Saharan African cultural landscapes, organisations and networks
- Track record managing high-volume grantee correspondence
