German Teachers‘ Training Programme

The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation.

The Goethe-Institut South Africa is inviting suitable applicants for a training programme that will run from 1 January 2022 – 31 December 2022 and that will focus on:

Teaching of German as a Foreign Language

Programme Outline:

  • B2 – C1 intensive German online language course
  • Supervised observation of German lessons and preparation of small teaching units
  • Evaluated demonstration lessons
  • Online training in didactics and teaching methodology
  • Training and accreditation as A1 – A2 Goethe-examiner

Requirements:

  • South African citizenship and place of residence Johannesburg or Pretoria
  • BA Degree in German Studies, Linguistics, another language or a comparable degree
  • Proof of B1 German language proficiency
  • Full-time availability for the duration of the programme
  • Above-average commitment, considering the scope and duration of the programme
  • Strong interest in teaching
  • Openness to new teaching methods, especially digital tools and online learning
  • Ability to work in a team, intercultural competence, diligence, resilience and reliability
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in the evening and also on weekends
