The Goethe-Institut South Africa is looking for a
Project coordinator for the Library-Gamebox-Hub
For a part-time position (20 hours per week), starting 1st March 2019 (or earlier, if possible) until 29 February 2020 with the option to renew the contract.

About the Goethe-Institut South Africa

The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. We convey a comprehensive picture of Germany by providing information on Germany's cultural, social and political life.

The project

Library-Gamebox-Hub is an open, physical and virtual space situated at the Goethe-Institute in Johannesburg connecting diverse people to work creatively. Imagination and learning take place to support one another’s ideas and work.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordination of Gamebox activities (launches, workshops, talks, Game Jams…)
  • Coordinating all activities related to the project, and reporting to the responsible information department at the Goethe-Institut South Africa
  • Coordinating network and community meetings
  • Researching, scouting and know-how of the gaming industry
  • Project reporting
  • Coordinating all public relations with the PR department at the Goethe-Institut South Africa and handling internal communication of the project with all stakeholders
  • Preparing texts and information material for internal and external communication
  • Attending events, expos, forums and conferences related to the project
  • Building and maintaining relationships with existing and new partners
  • Performing the day-to-day administrative duties of the project and other duties as needed


  • Relevant tertiary qualification in information science, game design or related fields
  • One (1) year relevant work experience of an advantage
  • Coordination and organizational skills
  • Very good networking skills
  • Familiarity with the South African gaming industry of an advantage
  • Excellent written skills in English
  • Ability to communicate in German is an advantage
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and flexible hours when necessary (on evenings and weekends for example)
  • Ability to work part-time at the office space provided by the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg
  • Non-South African applicants need to have a valid work permit for South Africa
