Lecture Performances: 14H00 - 17H00
For the first time ever, the internationally acclaimed Semperoper Ballet from Dresden is on tour in South Africa. In a three-hour demonstration and discussion, the group will provide insights into the training and rehearsal process that culminates in the presentation of completed choreographies on stage. Ballet Master Raphael Coumes-Marquet will explain basic step exercises, and what develops from there: a choreographic engagement with the works that are being rehearsed. As an example, soloists Courtney Richardson, Caroline Beach, Joseph Hernandez and Johannes Schmidt will demonstrate the method by performing various pas de deux by William Forsythe, one of the best-known contemporary ballet choreographers of this age.
