Young South African composers Cara Stacey, Arthur Feder and Nomapostile Nyiki bring to life three brand new works exploring the theme of ‘Opposites’ as related to the JIMF 2018 theme Papageno/Papagena, and facilitated by Festival Composers-in-Residence Matthijs van Dijk and Lungiswa Plaatjies. They will be joined by visual artist Naomi van Niekerk, who will interpret and improvise to their works visually, using the medium of sand art. The performance will be followed by a discussion regarding the creative process, led by Lungiswa & Matthijs. This event will build on the radically fresh foundations laid at last year’s event, towards creating a new South African musical identity.
