Over the period March – July 2019, Afropolitan Explosiv will be hosting professional artists on the first Friday of each month, in a short performance/demonstration and public conversation, where they get to speak about their artistic practice. The interaction will seek to respond to questions such as: formal education (where did they study), income opportunities (how do they sustain their art), sources of inspiration (how does their work link with their contemporaries, predecessors, different traditions and eras). The series will take place at the Afropolitan Explosiv’s Creative Hub, which is located in the CBD of Newcastle, KZN. The Series is convened by Dr Thokozani Mhlambi, cultural innovator, cellist and composer of music.
