Kevin Volans: Lectures & Performance

The South African Society for Research in Music and the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg are excited to host composer Kevin Volans for a series of lectures and discussion sessions in March this year. Taking place from 28-31 March, these lectures will consist of eight talks as well as listening sessions. Topics include, amongst others: “What is composition? – composition versus musicology”, “Working with materials – getting away from pitch” and “The role of theory” (subject to change).

Seating is limited, and interested parties are encouraged to reserve their spaces as soon as possible by sending an email to chair@sasrim.ac.za, including your name and contact details.

In addition to these talks, Jill Richards (piano) and Waldo Alexander (violin) will present a performance of Volans compositions on 31 March at 16h00 at The Ian Burgess-Simpson showroom in Kramerville, Sandton. Booking for the performance can also be done by contacting chair@sasrim.ac.za or jillyrichards@gmail.com.

Do not miss this opportunity to engage with one of the most original, influential and prolific composers of our age!

The performance at Ian Burgess-Simpson will cost R100 per Person. Ample, safe parking is provided at the venue.
