“FACE(S) OF BASADI” means “FACE(S) OF WOMEN” is a Performing Art Exhibition concept of Gaby Saranouffi, a dancer/choreographer and Artistic Director of “ITROTRA ART X CONNECTION” Company in collaboration with Jodi Bieber, South African photographer who has won numerous international awards including the Premier Award at World Press Photo in 2010. “FACE(S) OF BASADI” is a multidimensional project that includes Dance – Photography Exhibition – Live Performance – Installation.
The work focuses into WOMEN’S WORLD in Africa based on the photography of FACES of women. In today’s rhetoric world politics and Africa specifically, WOMEN ISSUES has been put in the forefront especially in a country such as South Africa where the prevalence of women problems such as abuse, rape and femicide are pandemic. As female artist living in Africa, how does oneself reflect to such societal problems imaging this to self-development/empowerment of women in the society.The project components will include Dance and Photography workshops sessions that will focus on encouraging young women to have self confidence in order to embrace the philosophy of believing in themselves, also to feature a Live Performing Art, and an Interactive Discussion with audiences for public awareness and art development in South Africa.
The project will be held in Johannesburg and in Eastern Cape through a partnership with IMONTI DANCE ARTS LEADERSHIP ACADEMY which hosts the project.
