After three amazing experiences at the A MAZE. Train Jams in South Africa 2018 to 2020 we are excited to invite you into the hyper hybrid dimension. Usually, we take Gauteng based developers and international game and VR developers on the legendary Shosholoza Meyl Train from Johannesburg to Cape Town. On that ride, we make games and the results get exhibited at Playtopia MGA. But since 2020 due to COVID-19, our program has changed and last year we jammed in VRChat and during that process created the incredible A MAZE. Train Station. Due to the SA regulations and the current situation, a physical game jam on a train is still too precarious. Therefore we've decided to become hyper hybrid and bring 25 game creators from the Johannesburg area together at the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg. The submission is also open to the international game dev community who can join online too.
The theme of this year train jam is "Let's Game Jam Art". We've invited 5 South African visual artists to choose one of their works to give them into our inspiration pool. These five artworks with their individual concept and narrative will be the base of your games. Create a narrative around the selected artworks and connect them to a game. There will be many open questions, but we will give answers during the preparation time later on Discord.
