Kuphi Okwethu is a music workshop facilitated by Madala Kunene, one of South Africa’s most accomplished and original musicians. Madala Kunene is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer and a musical anthropologist whose musical output crosses the musical lines between Jazz and Zulu folk blues.
For this project, Madala Kunene has been developing new material with young musicians from Durban and its surrounding areas. The aim is to share knowledge and skills with promising young musicians, and to explore music and song as a language to express neglected stories of their society. The project will also allow the young musicians to learn how to compose music, collaborate with other artists and produce music.
