As part of the “Entangled Intimacies: art, more-than-human embodiment, and the climate catastrophe” public programme, Natalie Paneng (@nataliepaneng_) presents “The Colours of Nature”

a live performance lecture and screening of her cumulative video work produced for the exhibition.

In this improvisational event, Paneng will present her ongoing speculative and artistic research conducted as part of the exhibition’s durational unfolding. The work is centred around the development of her “Future Formula” concept which considers the socioecological chaos of our contemporary moment through reflections on greenwashing, the international energy crises, neoliberal marketing strategies, and digital or online culture.

At turns comical and hyperreal, this video and performance piece contemplates the increasing toxicity of our planet and utilises artistic fabulation as a uniquely potent means of considering this catastrophic, extractive environment. Extending from and building upon the artist’s wider practice, “The Colours of Nature” employs digital, physical, and performative worldbuilding strategies to point to the indistinguishable interstitial landscape between the corporeal, technological, and ecological.

Free to all, no RSVP required.

This exhibition and accompanying public programme are curated by Rory Thomas (@rory.lst). They are supported by the Young Curators Incubator – a programme conceived in collaboration between the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg and the Wits School of Arts History of Art department.
