Living/Dying

Exhibition Entangled Intimacies by Io © Io

Sat, 29.04.2023

11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

As part of the “Entangled Intimacies: art, more-than-human embodiment, and the climate catastrophe” public programme, Io Makandal (@iomakandal) presents “Living /Dying,” a live artist-led walkabout and workshop.

Makandal will welcome audiences of all ages and lead them through a process of self-guided artmaking. As part of the workshop, guests will learn how to produce their own, small-scale living artworks akin to the artist’s piece “Untitled: WIP” (2023) from the “Entangled Intimacies” exhibition.

This event will allow audience members to engage and think directly with Makandal about her central artistic themes. In line with her practice more broadly, this event will be centred around notions of environmental embodiments of process, entropy, urban ecology, and hybrid environments during a time of environmental shift.

This exhibition and accompanying public programme are curated by Rory Thomas (@rory.lst). They are supported by the Young Curators Incubator – a programme conceived in collaboration between the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg and the Wits School of Arts History of Art department.

Please bring an apron and wear sensible working clothes you don’t mind getting stained.
