About the Artist

Siti Ruliyati, a graduate of ASRI Yogyakarta, is known for her contrasting visual aesthetics. Her pencil strokes are strong, tense, stiff and hard, but her compositions appear so feminine.

As an artist who became active during the revolution, her allegience to the people is evident in her paintings and drawings. During the 1960s, she moved to Jakarta and had numerous solo exhibitions. He work as an illustrator was followed by the public through a number of cultural magazines such as Budaya Jaya, Indonesia and Zenith. Throughout her life, Siti lived from her artistic practice, from her painting, drawing and selling postcards and greeting cards as well as holding painting courses.
