Chapter LINGO macht MINT issue 9: sport makes fit

This time around the magazine provides contents for the subjects Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Math. "Sport makes fit" is the motto the learners can experience themselves in four exciting experiments. As an introduction into the theme the editorial asks the question, why people do sports. Learners differentiate different sports by them being done alone, in pairs or in a team. Lingo also explains, why sport is healthy. A first experiment serves to find out, for which body parts you can do certain exercises. The subject geography is about the Olympics, sport outdoors, about speed and hights. Biology contains the thematics of bones and muscles. The learners explore the human skeleton and the function of joints. They learn more about the bizeps and trizeps in an experiment about the arm bend. The subject physics includes the themes force and motion. With the help of another experiment friction is explained. Afterwards the connection between friction, strength and movement will be clarified. Chemistry is about energy by burning in the muscles. Lingo shows what happens when muscles "burn". In the end the maths-part is about records and speed.


The learning objectives are:
 

• to introduce learners to the topic of the sports and communicate general and technical knowledge.
• to be able to communicate in writing simple facts from their own horizon of experience in the subject area "sports”
• to acquire basic vocabulary and technical terms and use them in a factual and contextual manner.
• to provide information on familiar subject matter in simple sentences, ask questions and respond to queries.
• to extract essential technical information from didactic reading texts, supported by linguistic and methodological aids.
• to investigate everyday experiences and culturally specific features in the subject area "sports" and to be able to discuss them in the appropriate language register.
