A densely packed grid of alphanumeric characters and symbols on a gold background. The characters include variations of 'DATA5', 'D+TA$', '>ΔTΔ/', and similar strings, with various capitalisation and symbols like '+', '$', '>', and '/'. The text resembles encrypted code. It is an artistic take on leet speak (sometimes called hacker speech).

Datas {the data and the sovereign}

Datas {the data and the sovereign}

is an international art and research programme that brings together artists, theorists, and technologists to explore how digital infrastructures, AI, and algorithmic governance impact personal and political sovereignty. Through residencies, exhibitions, and collective inquiry, the project fosters critical engagement with surveillance capitalism, technological extractivism, and the erosion of democratic agency.

Partners & Funders

The DATAS – The Data and the Sovereign project is led by the Projekt Atol (Slovenia), in partnership with the Goethe‑Institut (Germany), Izolyatsia (Ukraine), Tallinn Art Hall (Estonia), Galerie Rudolfinum (Czech Republic), and MeetFactory (Czech Republic), supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme. The partners host artistic residencies and collaborate on events, exhibitions, and a culminating group show at Prague’s Galerie Rudolfinum. The residency network creates a transnational dialogue on the impact of data power and digital agency across Central and Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus.
