Anne Griffiths

Bio

Anne Griffiths is an artist, writer and history practitioner whose work examines how systems of organisation, classification and display construct knowledge and shape cultural memory. Beginning with archival investigations or unexpected encounters, her projects use assemblage, collage and reconstruction to test how meaning shifts through acts of arrangement. Across works such as Taxonomy of the Cornflake, Botanic Dreams, Marriage Bonds, Pillow Archive and the ongoing Wunderkammer series, she explores how histories are assembled from fragments and how changing relationships between objects, images and texts can generate new ways of seeing.

Project Description

Working with the documenta archiv, Anne Griffiths explores whether recomposing an exhibition can make its underlying ideologies visible. Focusing on a historical installation and its surviving floorplans, photographs, correspondence and curatorial annotations, she investigates how small shifts in arrangement can produce different historical, cultural and political readings. Rather than reconstructing the original exhibition, the project recombines archival fragments with newly created elements to reveal how exhibitions become historical narratives and how archives preserve the possibility of critical reinterpretation.
