Young Journalists Programme
Are you interested in a career in journalism and eager to tell stories that connect and inspire young people across Europe? Would you like to develop your skills and get hands-on experience while working on transnational topic with newsrooms from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, and Poland?
Then apply to become part of the Young Journalists Programme, a three-month tailor-made mentorship by experienced journalists from the PERSPECTIVES network of newsrooms.
This year, our focus is on non-metropolitan areas and we are going to be especially looking for stories connected to experiences and challenges of young people living outside of big cities.
The Young Journalists Programme is going to run in two rounds. You will take part in one of them:
- March – May 2025
or - September – November 2025
What can you expect?
- You will receive tailor-made mentorship from experienced journalists who will help develop your journalism skills.
- You will take part in a one-week training in Hungary (first half of April 2025) or Estonia (September 2025).
- You will work on media content independently, collaborating with your young colleagues from other countries, supported by mentors.
- You will participate in international newsroom meetings and exchange your views with other journalists involved in the programme.
Work conditions:
- You can work remote
- Regular online meetings with a mentor
- Possibility of in-person meetings (if logistically possible based on your place of stay)
- Deliverables: At least one extensive report (or more smaller content pieces with a correspondingly comparable workload)
What can we offer you?
- A monthly remuneration of 700 EUR
- Coverage of potential research-related travel expenses
- Coverage of expenses connected to your participation in the one-week training
- Mentoring by experienced media professionals from the JÁDU team
- Collaboration with our transnational editorial network and the unique opportunity to work transnationally with other young reporters working with our partners
- Publication of your content pieces in the JÁDU online magazine
Who are we looking for?
- Young people with a strong interest in journalism
- Passion for topics with a transnational or European dimension and with a particular thematic focus on rural or provincial areas
- At least basic experience in reporting or storytelling
- Fluency in at least one of the JÁDU-languages (German, Czech, Slovak, or Ukrainian)
- Good English skills (working language of the project)

- Two topic proposals for stories you would like to work on
- At least one sample of your previous work
