In light of the ongoing protests and initiatives against racial discrimination in the USA, the question of how current advocacy for social justice differs from the efforts of previous generations is being discussed in many places. Three generations of people, all non-white members of the queer community in Los Angeles, take part in this conversation about politics and protest, social justice, identity and care. Madin Lopez, Reeves Gift and Karen Tongson meet at ProjectQ, a hair salon and neighbourhood centre primarily dedicated to trans and queer non-white youth who often experience discrimination and are at risk of homelessness. From three different perspectives, they talk about the urgent need for more social justice in Los Angeles – and how ProjectQ and other initiatives can play their part.

The project was developed in collaboration with the Thomas Mann House Los Angeles.
