On another note, Most Mechanics Are Crooks is an artistic and curatorial band that aims to reclaim insincerity as a tool of progressive discourse, challenging the backlash of a new belief in ontological truths, unconditional empathy, disarming sincerity and artistic humanism. Most Mechanics Are Crooks is the fruit of the longstanding collaboration between Eva Giannakopoulou, Alexis Fidetzis, Panos Sklavenitis and Kostis Stafylakis. During the years of the Greek social and political crisis (2009-2019 to the present), the four artists experimented with unreality, hyperreality, semblance, overidentification, storytelling and parafiction in order to question the normalization of reactionary and neo-patriotic narratives. They strive to develop mimetic strategies that unsettle the position of the emancipated critical artist/spectator.
