Growing nationalism and authoritarian governments are having a huge impact on the work of the cultural sector in many countries around the world. Creative artists try to pick their way through the contradictions between artistic freedom, political restrictions and financial dependence. What impact do state ideologies have on artistic freedom? What circumstances do artists work under in countries particularly affected by these developments? Which contents and forms of action come to the fore?
