The 2019 Weimar Cultural Symposium will be officially inaugurated on 19th June in the Weimarhalle. This year's keynote will be given by designer and futurist Anab Jain, based in India and the UK: How can we respond to the challenges and opportunities that the future holds for our society? How will it feel to live in the future? Anab Jain imagines and creates future scenarios so that we can experience them in the present. She ultimately comes to the conclusion that it is worth fighting now for the future world that we want to live in. Anab Jain will subsequently discuss the major upheavals in the world today, inter alia with Kenyan Internet activist Nanjira Sambuli, Greek political scientist Daphne Halikiopoulou and Bertelsmann Executive Board member Immanuel Hermreck. Opening speeches will be presented by Klaus-Dieter Lehmann, President of the Goethe Institute and Benjamin-Immanuel Hoff, Thuringian Minister of Culture and European Affairs.
A performance of the illuminated DUNDU puppets by artist and puppet-maker Tobias Husemann will take us into the second part of the evening, guiding us through Weimar city centre to the E-Werk grounds, where an after-show party featuring indie folk-pop duo Steiner & Madlaina and DJs DENA and [dunkelbunt] will round off the evening.
